summary Dead by Daylight

A group of four survivors must elude a single killer bent on sacrificing them on the hooks of “The Entity”, a controlling malevolent object. The survivors’ perspectives are from a third-person perspective, while the killer’s is from a first-person perspective. The survivors can only fight back by electrocuting the killer or using items like flashlights to block the killer’s view. Survivors can also jump over obstacles much faster than the killer, thus providing a means of escape. The survivors use these obstacles and gadgets to help them elude the killer for as long as possible.

In order to escape, the survivors must repair five generators scattered across the map to power the exit portals. They must then open the exit gates and leave the area, or find an escape hatch to jump into. Repair can be made faster

by using items such as toolboxes.

Gamplay

Most killers have only one form of movement, moving at a moderately faster pace than the speed of a fast survivor. When chasing survivors, the killer must capture them by either hitting them with their weapon (one hit injures the survivors, two hits puts them in a dying state) or grabs them in one move by grabbing them unexpectedly.

, although the rate of doing so is low. Suspended survivors are

usually rescued by other survivors.

a second time, he or she will enter the

“Struggle Phase”, where the Survivor must resist the entity that

attempts to stab him by performing skill checks, until he

he will die instantly with no chance of survival.

The killer, although walking at a fast pace, is slower than the survivors in other movements, such as jumping barriers. The killer cannot jump over the obstacles that the survivors can throw their way, but instead have to go around them or destroy them.

The assassin also has the ability to read auras, constantly revealing the location of generators, hooks, and sometimes survivors.

Each killer has his own unique power. For example, the Wraith can “vanish”, turning invisible and moving faster (but unable to hit survivors while hiding), and uses a “Hillbilly” saw that allows him to quickly dash along map and eliminate survivors instantly when you deal with him. As a survivor, players must

in one of two ways: either by repairing five generators to power the exit portals; Or by escaping through the hatch. The slot opens when there

is only one survivor left in the game. If the killer closes the hatch

or the gate is opened,

an end-game collapse will begin,

giving the survivors only two minutes to escape before

the timer runs out or they

. The survivor’s movement options consist of running, walking, or crawling. They must elude the killer by losing their line of sight in pursuit or by successfully hiding from them.

When dealing with the killer, the survivors can take advantage of

a few items – search for chests across the map that will

sometimes lead to medical kits, flashlights (which

‘s view), toolboxes, keys, or maps.

Most killers have a “circle of terror” around them. Survivors within

this circle hear heartbeats that increase in intensity as the killer approaches. They can also see a red light (called a “red spot”) emanating from the killer’s head on the ground, which reveals the direction

they are facing and can help the survivors determine when

the killer is about to turn a corner. Some assassins have the

ability to suppress terror radius and red light under certain circumstances, enabling them to surprise unaware survivors.

scoring

Survivor interactions with most objects in the game cause random skill checks. The player can either do a good skill check that has no consequence, a great skill check that speeds up the action the player is taking, or a bad skill check that informs the assassin of the survivor’s location. Killers have the ability to damage generators, which will cause repair progress to roll back over time.

If a survivor is captured by the killer, they are captured and usually taken to the nearest hook. During this time they can attempt to wiggle away from the killer’s grasp before they reach the hook and attempt to escape. If the killer successfully hits a survivor on one of the many hooks in the area, the teammate can rescue the impaled survivor or, in rare cases, the impaled survivor (with a 4% chance) can rescue himself from the hook.

Once all generators are fixed, the survivor must find an electric switch next to one of the two gates to exit and pull it down for 20 seconds to open the door. The game only ends when all of the survivors have either escaped or been killed – thus, while some survivors may escape and finish early, those still inside must continue playing. Players who escape or die have the ability to watch over other players during the end of the game, or return to the roster and join a new game.

If only one survivor remains, repairing generators can become nearly impossible. An alternative escape method is to use a “hatch”, which appears in a random area after the number of spawners repaired equals one more than the number of survivors left in the game (i.e. three spawners repaired with only two remaining Alive). The hatch closes but when only one survivor remains it will open automatically. The killer can close the hatch, which triggers the “endgame breakdown” phase of the game.
